As we are moving closer to the holiday season, the San Fernando Valley residents are working on their recipes for the big day. One of the highest causes of fires is from cooking. The following are some safety tips for this season:

Tip #1: Stay in the room while you are boiling, grilling, frying or broiling food. That way you're near to help making sure nothing  happens.

Tip#2: Make sure your sleeves are rolled up or you're wearing close fit clothes. If you have bulky sleeves it is possible the cloth can catch on fire.

Tip #3: Keep your extension cords to a minimum and try to plug appliances directly into the wall outlet.

Tip #4: If you notice a fire in your oven, turn it off immediately and allow the food to cool down before you open it again. If the fire has escaped the oven make sure you call 911 immediately.
